Independent Opera Alliance

My latest creation is to team up with Gina Crusco head of Underworld productions, and Cori Ellison, faculty member at American Lyric Theater and New York City Opera’s dramaturg from 1997-2010 to create an opera organization for the New York area.

We already have 12 opera organization on board, American Lyric Theater, American Opera Projects, Beth Morrison Projects, Chelsea Opera, Encompass Opera, Gotham Chamber Opera, Opera Moderne, Operamission, Opera Oggi, Opera Omnia, Vertical Player Repertory, Underworld Productions Opera.

Right now we are working on identity and formation issues and an official name. One of our goals is to create an Opera Festival in New York.

Diamond Street CD Released

CD Cover of Diamond Street

Diamond Street on Albany Records

Albany Records has released “Diamond Street,” the opera by Harold Farberman on which I was associate conductor. After a health issue with Harold Farberman who planned on conducting the rehearsals, I was there to take over when he couldn’t be there, so I ended up running much of the rehearsals. I conducted two of the three performances and Harold was gracious enough to have both of us conduct on the recording as well.
We recorded over 2 sessions at the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College, a wonderful Frank Gehry building with a concert hall that has a very clean acoustic, designed by Yasuhisa Toyota, who also design Disney Hall in Los Angeles.
